What is the difference between a pressure sensor and a pressure transmitter?
A device known as a pressure transducer contains both a measuring element – the sensor – and a transducer that converts the measured physical quantity into a signal. There is no separate name for this device, which combines both functions. Therefore, it is interchangeably referred to as a “pressure sensor” or a “pressure transmitter.”
Pressure transmitter – how it works
The medium exerts pressure on the process connection, whose surface is pressure-sensitive and is typically made of steel or silicon. The pressure is transmitted through the process connection and acts on the transducer’s internal components, which convert the force applied by the medium into an electrical signal.
Pressure transducer – construction
The most common pressure transmitter designs include:
- a force sensor, e.g., with a flexible front diaphragm
- a sensing element that uses a resistive, capacitive, or inductive method to generate an electrical signal
JUMO pressure transmitters
For many years, JUMO has been a leading manufacturer of specialized pressure transducers designed for a wide range of industries. They are used, among other things, in refrigeration engineering, packaging production, and the pharmaceutical and food industries. Our pressure measurement solutions meet the highest standards for this type of sensor, ensuring quality, accuracy, and ease of use.
Pressure transmitter offer
Decades of experience in the production and development of pressure sensor technology have enabled us to build a solid and reliable body of expertise. Combined with the highest-quality materials used in our devices, this ensures excellent measurement results under all conditions. Our portfolio consists of a wide range of standard pressure transducers, including both OEM pressure transducers and specialized pressure measurement devices tailored to specific customer requirements.
Submersible pressure transmitter
An example of such a holistic approach is liquid level measurement, which is most commonly determined using hydrostatic pressure. For pressurized tanks, JUMO dTRANS p20 DELTA series differential pressure transmitters can be used. For non-pressurized tanks, however, we offer special level probes and pressure transmitters.
Our product range also includes:
JUMO MIDAS 4-20 mA and 0-10 V pressure transmitter
JUMO MIDAS universal 4-20 mA or 0-10 V pressure transmitter (current or voltage output signal). Suitable for use in compressors, industrial machinery and facilities, vehicles, and pneumatic systems, among other applications.
JUMO dTRANS p31 hgh-temperature pressure transmitter
High-temperature pressure transmitter JUMO dTRANS p31, which features a heat-resistant measuring cell. It can operate at temperatures up to 200 °C, making it suitable for use in the food and chemical industries. It is also used in ultrapure water systems and autoclaves.
The reliability and durability of our transducers
A common issue when measuring in hydraulic systems is pressure surges, which can damage sensitive pressure sensors. At JUMO, we know how to prevent this and offer special product versions designed to avoid such situations. These versions are equipped with a welded restrictor in the pressure channel, which reduces unwanted pressure surges and thus ensures the long-term and reliable operation of our devices.
