LIQUID ANALYSIS
How to treat industrial wastewater efficiently in modular treatment plants? Case study
Industrial wastewater contains contaminants that must be effectively eliminated for companies to meet stringent standards. Compact wastewater treatment plants allow rapid compliance, but their efficiency depends on continuous monitoring of key parameters such as pH or pressure. In this case study, we will show how an automatic monitoring system based on a PLC and digital sensors for liquid analysis helped a client in the construction industry maintain wastewater quality, meet regulatory requirements and reduce operating costs. Read on and find out how modern technology solutions are revolutionising industrial wastewater treatment!

What are the characteristics of modular and compact industrial wastewater treatment plants?

Modular and compact industrial wastewater treatment plants are plants which, thanks to their design, allow companies to treat their wastewater quickly and efficiently - virtually anywhere. In contrast to traditional large stationary treatment plants, these systems are lightweight, easy to transport and, above all, ready for immediate commissioning.

For this reason, more and more companies are opting for this type of solution. Whether it be manufacturing companies, industrial plants or even construction sites - wherever wastewater is generated, a compact sewage treatment plant allows the problem of water and wastewater management to be solved in an instant. They are also often used by companies with temporary business operations that have to comply with strict regulations regarding the quality of wastewater discharged, but cannot afford to build large, stationary plants.

Among the most important advantages of modular sewage treatment plants are mobility and the possibility of rapid assembly. In practice, this means that such a plant can be quickly transported, set up and commissioned even in a small space. In addition, these solutions are characterised by a high degree of flexibility - depending on needs, it is easy to increase or decrease their capacity by adding or detaching individual modules. This allows companies to flexibly adapt the installation to the current needs of production or the specifics of a particular site, without large investments in new infrastructure.

How to automatically monitor and control industrial wastewater parameters? Our solution

We have developed comprehensive solutions that enable fully automatic monitoring and control of wastewater parameters in compact and modular industrial wastewater treatment plants. The basis of the system is a central PLC - the JUMO variTRON 500 or variTRON 300 - which collects data from sensors deployed in the plant, such as pH electrodes from the digiLine series or JUMO Midas S05 pressure sensors. In this way, all relevant quality parameters are analysed and monitored in real time and the system reacts automatically by neutralising excessively alkaline wastewater with carbon dioxide (CO₂).

In practice, this solution works well, for example in the construction industry. Our customer manufactures compact wastewater treatment plants, which it rents out to companies operating construction projects. Construction sites generate wastewater with a high pH - mainly due to the presence of cement, concrete or other construction substances.By using a JUMO variTRON controller, pH and pressure sensors and a Teltonika communication module with cloud access, the customer can remotely monitor and control the plant. In this way, it complies with all legal requirements for the quality of the wastewater discharged and, at the same time, saves time and operational costs, which were previously significantly higher by the need for manual checks. The mobility and fast operation of our system are ideally suited to the construction industry, where ease of use, reliability and immediate results are important.

What are the benefits of automatic metering systems in compact industrial wastewater treatment plants? Benefits for customer

Automatic measuring systems primarily mean greater peace of mind and operational reliability for owners of compact wastewater treatment plants. By continuously monitoring parameters such as pH or pressure, customers are guaranteed that the wastewater meets all legal requirements. They thereby eliminate the risk of costly penalties and the need to interrupt operations.

Importantly, automation significantly reduces the time spent manually inspecting the plant. Instead of regular, time-consuming manual measurements, everything happens automatically and the results are available online in real time. Employees can therefore concentrate on key tasks instead of constantly monitoring the process.

An additional advantage of compact and modular systems is mobility - installations can be easily moved to another location, quickly commissioned and adapted to new conditions. Construction or industrial companies can react flexibly to changing needs, expanding or downsizing the treatment plant depending on the scale of the current project. As a result, the client receives a solution that is not only efficient, but also economical and tailored to actual needs.
