Task

Up to now, the measurement data used for quality assurance was stored either locally or, at great expense, via GSM modem on a computer. There, they could be evaluated using the JUMO PCC and PCA3000 software, for example.

This method is no longer up to date. Apart from the fact that GSM modems cannot keep up with today's demands for data transmission speeds, in this system the data remain in local access. In times of globalization and decentralized plants, it is essential to break down data silos and network locations. Employees at different locations must have access to plant and process data everywhere - including, of course, on mobile devices.

Solution approach

The data from paperless recorders, measuring instruments, and other analog and digital signals are transferred to the JUMO Cloud via the JUMO variTRON 500 automation system and DSL connection. Alternatively, a WLAN or LTE gateway can also be used.

The existing recording devices are connected to the variTRON via their Ethernet interface. Corresponding input modules are available for additional analog and digital signals, with which the central processing unit can be expanded.

The JUMO Cloud offers an unlimited number of users worldwide access to the encrypted data.

Project result

The system was modernized, while the proven hardware in the plants can continue to be used. In addition to the higher speed and security of data transmission, the solution is characterized above all by its decentralized nature. Worldwide access to all plants and processes is made possible via JUMO variTRON and the JUMO Cloud.

Through simple user management, employees receive all relevant information on plants and processes, which they can compile in individual dashboards and also call up on mobile devices. No installations are required for this, but can be used via common browsers. Together with on-call scheduling in conjunction with monitoring and alerting functions, productivity is increased. The creation of reports for internal analysis or as evidence for external bodies has also been greatly facilitated by the cloud, saving working time.
